Why Orcas Island?
We Made a Real Video About a Completely Fake Couple. And sent them to Orcas Island anyway.
So we took the ferry. Drove through Moran State Park, played on the beach like two eight-year-olds, jumped into Mountain Lake, soaked in the tubs and sauna at Doe Bay until we got that pleasantly cooked feeling where you start talking about your childhood for no reason. Had coffee at the Orcas Hotel and didn't want to leave.
At the end of the trip our fictional couple made a list of places they could get married. The kind of places that sound impressive when you say them out loud.
And then they picked Orcas Island.
Which is exactly how this place works. People come here thinking they're taking a vacation and then six months later they're explaining to friends why they're looking at real estate listings, ferry schedules, and photos of deer standing in someone's yard.
The strange thing about Orcas is that it doesn't really feel like a destination. It feels more like a person. Not in a weird crystal-shop way. More like that friend who never asks you to stay but somehow keeps convincing you to come back.
So yes, the couple is fictional. But if you've ever stood on that ferry deck watching the islands come into view and felt something shift a little, you already know. That part is real.
If you're thinking about coming to Orcas Island, we'd love to make something with you.
